Ros-Lehtinen, St. Thomas University to Host Monday Forum on Efforts to Eliminate Human Trafficking

(WASHINGTON) – U.S. Rep. Ileana Ros-Lehtinen (R-FL), Ranking Republican on the House Foreign Affairs Committee, in coordination with St. Thomas University, will host a forum on Monday, September 13, 2010 from 9:45 – 11:00 a.m. to discuss efforts to protect vulnerable women and children in South Florida and around the world from the global scourge of human trafficking. Ros-Lehtinen will participate on a panel with Ambassador Luis CdeBaca and St. Thomas University President Rev. Msgr. Franklyn Casale. Statement by Ros-Lehtinen:

“I am so pleased that we are able to hold this event in South Florida, where St. Thomas University has long been a leader in combating human trafficking and standing up for victims in our community and around the world.

“Every year, hundreds of thousands of people are trafficked around the world, mostly women and girls. I am proud to have been a strong voice in Congress for the Trafficking Victims Protection Act.

“But make no mistake, we cannot afford to let up now. I am committed to enhancing all efforts, public and private, to end this modern day slavery once and for all.”
